Welcome to The School
In a fun and family environment we encourage children to explore their own creativity and expression as well as providing them the knowledge and discipline of the art of dance. We want our Students to be fearless in expressing themselves creatively whether they pursue a dance career or not. By offering a varied and holistic approach we hope to develop dynamic young students who can appreciate the art form as a whole, not just technical skills. We feel the strength, posture and confidence achieved during their years of training will be of great benefit in lots of adult life challenges such as: interviews, debates, presentations and high pressure situations.

Morag Alexander School of Dance Celebrates Dance Course Expansion
Morag Alexander School of Dance is celebrating a remarkable year of academic and artistic achievement.
As an SQA Approved Centre, since 2011, the school’s latest approval is to deliver National Progression Awards (NPA) Levels 4 and 5 in Dance.
This year marked the first-time entering pupils for National Progression Awards (NPA). In a further triumph, the school’s HNC (Higher National Certificate) pupils took their Classical Ballet Unit studying the RAD Advanced Ballet syllabus, performing their chosen piece at the annual show. Every student has worked extremely hard and are looking forward to results day.
The school is also approved to deliver the Higher Dance Qualification in which 13 pupils next year will enrol on this course, in previous years this has a 100% pass rate, reinforcing the school’s growing reputation for excellence in both performance and education.
The school’s principal and teachers say the approval to deliver SQA NPA qualifications has opened new doors for pupils, offering them nationally recognized credentials that support both career progression and further study in the performing arts in a nurturing inclusive environment.
“These achievements reflect the incredible dedication and talent of our pupils,” said Morag. “We are proud to offer high-quality, accredited training that not only nurtures their artistic development but also builds strong academic foundations.”
The news comes on the heels of the school’s annual dance show and musical theatre showcase, parents, staff, and members of the community packed the venue, a highlight of the Dance School calendar. The events featured standout performances across a range of styles, with pupils of all ages demonstrating the creativity, technical skills they’ve developed throughout the year.
With SQA and RAD qualifications embedded into the school’s curriculum, pupils’ performance is at an all-time high, the school is looking forward to delivering their expanded timetable and welcoming new pupils in the coming academic year.

Fraser Johnstone
Partner and Music Teacher
Morag’s son Fraser runs the Musical Theatre classes on a Sunday and teaches singing. He offers private tuition in drums, guitar and ukulele. Fraser also operates the recording studio and music room and edits and prepares the music for the show.

Teacher
Josie Sellwood has studied in the school since the age of 3. Josie then graduated with a First Class Honours Degree in Professional Dance Practice from The Scottish School Of Contemporary Dance. Josie has performed in New York City with the Scottish Ballet Youth Exchange, The National Youth Dance Company touring the UK, Dublin and Estonia. As well as performing in the Edinburgh Fringe with Scottish Ballet YE and The National Youth Dance Company, Josie has also performed in music videos.

Pamela attended Preston College after being a pupil at the Morag Alexander School of Dance between the ages of 3 - 18. Pamela gained her Advanced 1 Ballet with the Royal Academy of Dance, is a teaching member of Rambert Grades and has her CBTS teacher training with the Royal Academy of Dance.
Pre School - Primary Ballet Uniform
Pre School – Primary 2 children can wear either the Bloch tutu Leotard or the Lavender leotard with belt, pink socks and pink leather ballet shoes. Both can be worn with School hoodie when required in winter. (Please do not wear vest or tights.) Hair if long held in a ponytail. No earrings.

Primary 3 – Grade 1 Children wear the above Lavender leotard with belt, pink socks and pink leather ballet shoes hair if long held in a ponytail then in a small bun from Grade 1 standard (no hair decorations or scrunches and no artificial hair pieces). School hoodie when required in winter. No earrings.
Grade 2 and 3 Ballet Uniform
RAD ‘Anna Princess’ leotard. Pink leather (Low Vamp) ballet shoes with one elastic over instep. Pink Ballet tights. Hair in a small bun without artificial buns or if you have very short hair please just use a hair Band and net. School hoodie when required in winter. No earrings.
Grade 4 - 6 Ballet Uniform
RAD Royal Blue Leotard ‘Isabelle Princess’ panelled and fully lined with thin straps. Accompanied with Belt worn with Pink ballet tights, pink leather split sole shoes (Low Vamp) with one elastic over instep. School hoodie when required in winter.
Hair must be in a neat bun with for all Ballet Classes. Teachers have the right to refuse entry to untidy students. No earrings.
Intermediate and Ballet Club Uniform
Black Ballet Leotard of your choice to be worn with Pink Ballet Tights and pink Ballet shoes. Red Ballet Shoes for Scottish
Contemporary or Jazz Bright Coloured Leotard of your choice with footless tights, bare feet/ foot thongs. School hoodie when required in winter.
Boys Ballet
White ballet t-shirt or white short sleeved cotton leotard, with black cotton leggings or shorts, with white socks and white ballet shoes. School hoodie when required in winter.
Boys Jazz
Black jazz leggings and brightly coloured T-Shirt, white socks and black jazz shoes. School hoodie when required in winter.
Primary 3 – Ballet Club Jazz
Coloured sleeveless or short sleeved leotard of your choice with black 3/4 length leggings, black belt and black jazz shoes. Please note velvet leotards get very warm. School hoodie when required in winter.
